Call for Submissions
Do you have a completed audio work focused on food and drink that needs a new audience?
We’re building a food and wine audio magazine that tells stories through sound. We welcome pitches from emerging producers, established audio makers, and food writers interested in the medium. Here’s how to work with us.
---
WHAT IS THE SPUNTINO?
The Spuntino is a multi-voiced audio magazine dedicated to food and wine storytelling. We publish narrative audio pieces, interviews, sonic explorations, and experimental work that engages with food culture globally.
---
WHO WE WORK WITH
We publish work from three primary contributor tracks:
Food writers pivoting to audio
If you write about food and wine and want to explore audio as a medium, we’ll work with you to develop and produce a piece. We provide mentorship and feedback throughout the process.
Emerging audio producers
Audio students, early-career producers, and makers learning the craft. We commission work, provide editorial feedback, and offer opportunities to grow your portfolio.
Established audio makers & producers
Producers with existing work in radio, podcasting, or audio documentary looking to explore food storytelling or pitch a complete piece to us.
All audio work is welcome! e.g., Three minutes of field recording in a unique space, non-narrated stories, sound art.

HOW TO PITCH
For story ideas or project pitches:
Email us with:
- A clear, 2–3 sentence description of your story or concept
- Why it matters now and why audio is the right medium for it
- Links to previous work (portfolio, published pieces, demo reel—whatever shows your skills). Not required! We want to help beginners grow.
- Your experience level or background (even if it’s “I’m a food writer learning audio”)
---
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Finished audio pieces:
- Shorts should be 3-10 minutes
- Features should be 10+ minutes
- Stereo or spatial audio (Ambisonics, binaural, immersive formats welcome)
- Clean, professional mix with consistent levels
- Include a written synopsis (300–500 words) and any necessary credits or disclosures
- Submit as high-quality audio file (WAV preferred, 24-bit/48kHz if you have it)
Work in development:
If you have a strong concept but need guidance on production, we may commission the piece at a development stage. We’ll discuss timeline, scope, and support based on your experience level.
Food writers exploring audio for the first time:
We can work with either your written draft or your rough audio recording. We’ll collaborate on structure and production, and you’ll learn the process alongside professional feedback.

COMPENSATION & LAUNCH STATUS
At launch, we’re unable to offer payment while we build our subscriber base. We welcome completed audio pieces from producers and writers looking for an additional home for finished work—including reprints and second placements from other publications or platforms.
---
INCREASE YOUR CHANCES
- Be specific. Vague pitches get lost. Tell us the story, not just the subject.
- Show your work. Even rough demos or clips of your voice/audio help us understand your style.
- Read the magazine. If you pitch something that’s a natural fit with our editorial voice, we notice.
- Be responsive. If we ask questions or request revisions, quick turnaround helps.
- Don’t submit the same pitch to 50 outlets at once. If you’re pitching us, pitch us thoughtfully.
---
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU PITCH
We review pitches within 2–3 weeks. If we’re interested, we’ll reach out to discuss timeline, any production support you might need, and next steps. If it’s not quite right for us, we’ll send a brief response (no news is not good news—we aim to reply to everyone).
Once commissioned, you’ll work with our editorial team through revisions, mix notes, and fact-checking. We’re collaborative. Your voice matters in shaping the final piece.
